Who we are & what we do
The Great Lakes Art Glass studio is located in rural West Michigan along the state’s largest river, the Grand River.
Each art glass piece is hand-crafted in Michigan from window glass repurposed from old Michigan farmhouses. Some of these farmhouse glass panes are more than a century old! This historical glass is then infused with natural copper from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Therefore, each piece is unique and is “Pure Michigan”.
Under the high temperatures of the glass kiln, the natural copper is fused between sheets of glass as the copper reacts with oxygen and other gases to produce a beautiful palette of colors ranging from shiny native copper to pink, ruby red, purple and even emeralds highlighted by small refractive bubbles produced by the copper. Therefore, each art glass piece is one of a kind as no two pieces will react in the same manner in the high temperature environment of the glass kiln.
